BleepingComputer.com: Tomtom possibly infected

I recently bought a Tomtom one 140 gps. The initial map download takes several hours, and I was almost all the way through the download when my computer was infected with the AV suite. The download needed another minute and I was afraid I would really mess something up if I disconnected early, so I waited for the download to complete before disconnecting.

My concern is this: Since the Tomtom has internal memory, could the virus now be lurking on the device? My antivirus was not strong enough to stop AV before, so I don't particularly want to hook it up to my computer and find out. It doesn't seem as though the virus could do anything just sitting on the Tomtom, but eventually I will need to plug it in to update the maps.

Is there anything I can do here? Is there any way to tell whether or not the Tomtom has been infected without placing my computer at risk? Will the Tomtom function normally if it's infected?

Highly unlikely your GPS is infected as the malware is written for Windows not the operating system of the GPS. Secondly the purpose for malware is to generate revenue. There is zero profit for that malware on your GPS.

I am not a malware specialist but I feel quite confident that the GPS is not infected. Others who may be more well trained may have other insights as well.

I agree with animal. It is unlikely that the virus is lurking on your tom tom, However if you're paranoid about it ( Which isn't a bad thing at all) You could run a Linux live cd and do a virus/Malware scan
