Hi .

Can you post a screenshot of Device Manager, so that we can see whatever it is that you cannot see?

Louis

You've tried what is suggested at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/311504?

Did you recently install Service Pack 3?
In the beginning there was the command line.

I already tried http://support.microsoft.com/kb/311504?
As far as screenshot I am not at the PC today but it Has the name of that PC (which is POS) at the top next to the blue computer. Can't expand anything, tried seeing hidden devices, been all over the net for ideas and tried most. Nothing seemed wrong from HJT log when I ran it last night. This has me baffled. I don't have SP3. I have SP2

After backing up your registry (you can use Erunt to do this), you might try the script at #107 on the right.

Even though this is considered to be a safe registry edit...it's always wise to back up your registry before attempting any edit, scripted or manual.

ERUNT Registry Backup Tool - http://www.snapfiles.com/get/erunt.html

System manufacturer and model?

Do you have a MS XP install CD...to attempt either running sfc /scannow command or doing a repair install of XP?

Any other system anomalies readily apparent?

If you tell me the system manufacturer and model...I have a better idea of what can be suggested in the way of attempted fixes.

Systems bought from manufacturers like HP, Sony, eMachines, etc...have fewer options than a system that was built or wihich included a copy of the MS XP CD in the purchase.

<<...only have own xp from two other pc's. Would they work?>>

Depends...all disks are not created equal. Recovery/restore CDs are not the same as MS XP install CDs.

I don't know what else to suggest...if it were me, I'd try a repair install of XP.

I would not use any of the disks you stated that you have.
