Well, no problems in that there's no popups & false warnings, but both Ascentive Active Speed & Performance Center are still present. I am unable to uninstall Active Speed, but at least Performance Center no longer appears in the 'Add/Remove Programs' list. Also, I am still unable to uninstall either Mcaffee and Norton (although this may be unrelated to the Ascentive problem, it seems related to the Windows Installer Service).
Neither Mcaffee or Norton were forthcoming with any specific tools for removing their products from a computer. When I try to uninstall either program I get the message: the Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. I tried to uninstall Bearshare, and I get: could not open Install.log file. I tried to remove ActiveSpeed, and I get: Setup.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.
Am I dealing with a 'clean' system, with an OS that's been crippled by all the malware that's been running on it?
Okay, McAffee is gone & most of Norton - I'll deal with LiveUpdate later. I'll keep limping along, going to try the XP repair & see how far that gets me. ActiveSpeed is still on the 'Add/Remove Programs' list.
And you get an error trying to remove it? My guess is that it has already been removed, and only the registry value keeping it in the Uninstall list is still there.
