Hi endorphin, and  to Bleeping Computer.

If you wish to submit logs to our malware analysts for help with a malware issue, please do the following instead of posting a HijackThis report.

Please follow the instructions in This Guide.

Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it HERE Please include a description of your computer issues and what you have done to try to resolve them.

If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Well that was going to be my question as well.

So are hijackthis logs no longer used here? This site is the first one provided on the hijackthis "analyze" list of links.

I just success using the "fix" function for what were obvious problems. I'm up here at work so I have to deal with co-workers getting infected. Tonight I came to work with a nice treat of "Desktop Security 2010" which of course was going crazy like most of that garbage does. Sure enough DesktopSecurity2010 was on the list in the hijckthis log so that was a no brainer to delete that one. Right below it was something with an identical location but it was called "security center" which was another cute pop up I was getting so I deleted that. I also had previous luck deleting "run once" programs so I did that as well. Huge success. All the garbage is basically gone. Th eonly thing left is the "desktop Security 2010" on the toolbar and I'm also still getting the "security center" pop up.

Anyways I don't necessarily mean to post my problem but I just wanted to give the example of how well hijackthis worked for me just now since it seems that maybe it isn't used here anymore.

Hi Androol.

For many modern infections HijackThis no longer provides enough information for a complete removal. This is mainly due to the fact that the development of HijackThis stagnated for a long time while malware continued to develop. Malware writers, recognizing the widespread use of HijackThis, specifically wrote their malicious software so that signs would not show up in a HijackThis log. While we still can and sometimes do use HijackThis for malware removal purposes here, for the reasoning above it is no longer our primary tool for malware detection and removal.

Members of the malware fighter community have stepped forward and developed their own scanning tools that, to be frank, greatly outclass HijackThis in terms of providing information relevant to and necessary for the detection and removal of many modern infections. HijackThis recently released a new version. I do not know if this is a harbinger of further development with the program or not, but time will tell.

Hope that helps, and  to Bleeping Computer.

Well is there some place here I can still post my log just in case there's a very obvious and easy solution?

Since I already had such good luck tonight I'm thinking there might be just one more thing to delete. The things I already deleted were really obvious to a complete beginner like myself so I thought there might be some other things which would be equally obvious to the much more experienced.

Hello.

First thing I would try, if you haven't already, is following our guide on removing this particular rogue. Remove Desktop Security 2010 (Uninstall Guide)

You can post your HijackThis log in the This Forum for analysis by the malware team. However, the vast majority of team members are going to want to see a more detailed log simply to ensure that there isn't anything else hiding behind the scenes. The scans we request in the preparation guide mentioned in an earlier post (DDS and GMER) generally do not take very long to perform.

You'll find that Bleeping Computer is not the only site that does this. The vast majority of help sites out there no longer use HijackThis as a primary detection tool; it's just not suited for the infections of today.

If there is a specific reason for your reticence to post some other form of log, I would be happy to try and address that issue for you. Please feel free to send me a PM with your specific concerns, should you have any.

awesome thank you

the first link was helpful particularly for the Malwarebytes recommendation. I've always had the program but lately I've been using Super Antispyware with much better luck. However I used Malwarebytes and sure enough it caught a few things Super Anitspware missed and the "security center" pop-up is now gone.

So apparently all I have left is the Desktop Security 2010 icon in the toolbar lower left side. I tried add/remove in the control panel but its supposedly requiring a "key" and i got a pop-up so it seems lik eit wont be that simple to remove.

Well...after reading all of this forum and others....it seems that I need to just scrap these 2 badly infected computers and start over
these damned backdoors are just NOT anything to play with and I'm afraid that it may be possible that the BIOS has been altered as well

too bad...just bought this laptop....:/

What about posting a bug for ComboFix? I have some troubles with my laptop (Nvidia Optimus - unable to switch graphic cards) after using combofix.
I've been using combofix for 2 yrs now and cant use it anymore due to the problem. I'd like to provide information about it to the author.
It's a good program and it saved me couple times and i really want to use it in the future.
I have two logs that could be helpful for a fix. One is from my machine and the other is from my friend's machine(same problem after using combofix).
Where to post it?
