BleepingComputer.com: multi CPU's not multi core

How much extra performance do they give in gaming? if you had 2 i7 930's do you get double performance from the cpu. Does windows 7 support it fine?

hi, do they still make duel chip motherboards ,my dell workstation xeon cpu has 2 ,,use to have a duel p3 11oo ,but never heard of or see a i7 duel chip board ,but will go search a little to see if there is one

you could get core2 mother boards so i assume if you could with i7.

However did duel xenos double performance from one then?

a intel i7cpu is a quad core cpu ,plus it uses hyperthreading to emulate more cores ,8 threads in all i think .,and yes it works great with win7.how could it not with all that power

Ok maybe I need to rephrase lol. I was just generally wondering if you had a multi CPU set up do you get double the performance. I just assumed that you could buy i7 motherboards that were capable of supporting 2 CPU's

Depends on the program.

Very few programs (non server) make use of all 4 cores in an i7 9XX cpu. Doubling up won't help. Most systems running dual CPU boards are using ~64 gig of memory and running multiple virtual machines to make use of all that CPU power.

You can buy motherboards that support dual LGA 1366 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....al%20LGA%201366 but I don't know if the BIOS is hackable to enable them to run anything but Xeon CPUs. Not like the old days when we could play with the bridges on your Athlon and turn it into an Athlon MP and use it in multi CPU boards.

just an assumption ,i can imagine why they would need a duel cpu slot motherboard ,when the i7 cpu has 4 cores with 2 threads each ,so 4 cores and 8 threads ,for hyper threading [threads are emulations of a core ,my understanding anyway ]
