Hello,
I am new to this forum, but I have used combofix successfully many times previously using the Major Geeks malware removal procedures.
I was trying to help my friend who has an Averatec 3270 Notebook computer running windows xp home sp3. After running ccleaner, superantispyware and malwarebytes, I attempted to run combofix.
The recovery console successfully installed and then the cursor sat and blinked for several hours without getting to any of the "Stages."
Assuming the system to be hung, I killed the task and attempted to reboot. Rather than any startup dialog or windows logo, I just got a blinking cursor in the upper lefthand corner of the screen after the POST. I am able to get into the bios so I set the machine to boot from CD and tried booting to Windows Install disks, Spotmau and a recovery console disk I made using a procedure I found referenced in this forum.
I am unable to boot the machine by any of the above methods. My current theory is that the system board's disk controller is trashed, but I am hoping that that is not the case as it would entail replacing the motherboard.
Is there any suggestion you can make for me to try?
Thanks in advance.
RHW
