My neighbors and visitors like to use my Wi-Fi .

I would like to set up a landing page for my network.

From what I have read seems like Flashing the router and installing DD-WRT is the way.

You are correct, DD-WRT or one of the other open firmware loads is what you want. What you are trying to do is what is called a "Captive Portal". A very simple one can be embedded directly in the router, more complex pages are set up on an external server with a handshake back to the router to allow the visitor to exit the sandbox. This page has a decent tutorial covering the basics of all three DD-WRT captive portal (or "hotspot") options, NoCat for simple pages, ChilliSpot for more complex environments and Sputnik for a commercial turnkey option. I'd recommend NoCat for a first attempt, then work your way up.

Any chance I might brick or ruin my router? ( Linksys WRT54GS )

There is always a chance you can brick your router, but if you follow the instructions exactly it's not much worse than the average firmware update. Just make sure you get the latest instructions for your specific model and version of router and don't skip any steps. Some require a multi-step upgrade, loading VXKiller or Micro before you can upgrade to the full version. Take your time and you will be fine.

Checking the supported versions my ver is not listed

I have a WRT54GS V 7.1

They have a v 7.0 and a 7.2

That looks about right to me. I've never implemented one off-router yet, mine are just "I'll be good" agreement pages for open hotspots and don't need much code and no real logic. (hit "I'll be good" and you are in, hit "Stuff it, I'll do as I like!" and you are kicked off and your Mac address blocked.) But as I remember the documentation that seems to be about it. Let us know how it works !

You are missing a </div> and </form> I think.

Yes, if you keep it simple you can host it on the router itself. Just follow the examples for the version of DD-WRT and NoCat you are using (beware of ancient web artifacts, particularly instructions for several year old versions of open source software you are trying to use.) Remember you only have a few K of space on the router, so keep it very simple. Minimal graphics, forget Flash, etc. Plain Jane HTML works pretty well.
