BleepingComputer.com: Windows keeps restarting

Dear everyone,

Since a couple of weeks my Sony Vaio - OS Windows XP Home - keeps restarting after the "welcome screen". I don't think I changed anything but I get 2 errors: 1 saying winlogon. exe failed and the other that logon.exe failed. Right afterwards, the laptop restarts itself.

Can anyone please help me? Thanks in advance.

Did you run HijackThis under supervision of an IT specialist?

Have you tried to boot into Safe Mode? You didn't say in your post. Also.... how did you run HJT in Normal Boot... if you said your computer restarts at the welcome screen....?

Edit: Also.... I read through your log.... my only question is (probably not an issue.... but I need to make sure...) what is Apoint? I saw it in your log, under running processes...

P.S.... to any moderators reading this as well.... I'm trying to determine if cucaracha should be moved to a different forum... because I'm awesome like that....

Your HJT Log will be moved to the proper forum where one of our HJT team members will address it.

Because you have this log posted, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a HJT Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show in the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer.

I will ask a member of our Malware Team to take a look at your thread.

I am temporarily removing your HJT log from this post...if either it or any other logs are requested by the Malware Team or by a Moderator, then please supply it at that time.

We have a number of unbootable computer situations that require the advice/suggestions from a member of the Malware Team. Your thread here will be added to that list and should result in a more expeditious resolution of your situation. If I move your posted log to the appropriate forum, you are looking at an approximate 7-day backlog of users in similar situations.

Hi, since you were able to produce a log, can you still boot in safe mode?

Hi, thanks all for the responses. I am not able to boot in safe mode but sometimes I can boot through dos using "the last configuration that worked". Computer runs slow than though...
