you might be surprised, some older stuff does sell better. Some people are just plain attached to their computers and just plain want that old memory. On the other hand, some people, buy the parts and extract the gold from them. I would probably start it out at 50 and try that. If it doesn't sell in say the first couple weeks, try dropping it and seeing what happens.

If someone wants the memory why would they spend the extra money on shipping + parts for an entire computer?

Extract the gold from them? There is no gold in a PC. There is copper though.

It was just an example, my point was there are still those people that like having the older stuff for various reasons. And actually, you would be surprised. Sure, some of your low end PCs only use copper, but a lot of computer stuff uses gold-youd be surprised how much. There are companies out there that buy old computers like that just to extract the gold out of them. For example, on my machine, the contact points on the memory and on the video card are all made out of Gold, as well as some of the wiring-gold is a really good conductor, which is why it is so widely used in computer parts. Most people don't realize this, and in reality, its difficult to extract withou the right equipment-but it is widely used. In fact, I dare say the computer your using right now has some gold in it. :D

There might be gold plated components but internally, nothing is gold. Of that gold plating, it wouldn't even weigh anything if you shaved it off. Most of electrical components are silicone, plastic, iron, brass, lead, copper and silver.

I seen on the news one time how our electronics are being shipped over seas to third world countries and they are extracting the gold and silver from our junk and in those countries you have to remember, their employment wages are like us in the United States getting 25 cents a week to do our jobs.

Extracting that gold and silver for us in the U.S is a waste of time, but in those countries that gold and silver is worth the time and money they get for it. IMO

Bruce.

Quoting from the article I linked to:

Recovering gold from computers has, until recently, not been economically viable, but new technologies have changed this situation.

Well, there's maybe $0.50 worth of gold (in weight) inside a computer. Happy recovery!

Oh, theres not a lot your right, Id say youd get more then .50 cents, however, from a recycling plant-depending on the computer maybe around 20 to 25. Doing it yourself probably isnt worth it, youd waste to much time, but if you could sell it to a company that does it in mass. . .
