How much more speedy can it make an older PC if I delete old, unused programs? I did a little bit of what I know I can do, but is there is safe way to remove everything I can, but not something I shouldn't?

The O/S is the vital part of the system, not the programs.

As long as the O/S is running smoothly, you can uninstall (not delete) any program (that cannot be considered part of Windows) and reinstall it later (as long as you have the setup files, etc.).

If you uninstall a program today and decide that you need it tomorrow...you just reinstall it...or find another program that performs the same/similar function.

Not sure what "old programs" might be...I would urge everyone to uninstall any program which serves no useful purpose on the system for the user.

The user is the only person that can determine the value of any program installed.
