BleepingComputer.com: Old Game

Hi,

I've been playing a lot of old games on vmware player lately. I've got a windows 98 vm that I'm trying to play Microsoft's Fury 3 on. Fury 3 is a windows 95 game. The installation went smoothly and the game launches but it doesn't play right.

As soon as I start playing everything works as normal for about 3 seconds, then it will freeze for a second and then pick back up again. It will repeat this over and over untill I lose my patience. It's as if there was some kind of lag between my hardware and the game. Everything renders properly but the game will constantly freeze up whenever I try to move around, or fire my weapons. It seems to me that the more graphical elements appear, the more the game has a harder time processing them.

Is my resolution too high?

Is my processor too fast?

Is it because this game was made for windows 95?

It's so unusual for it to behave like this. I have no idea why it won't just work.

Have you tried change the the compatibility to windows 95?

Sure haven't.

I don't have a copy of Windows 95.

They're both dos based. Do you think it would make all the difference?

How fast does the VM run without playing the game?
You could be stretching your system resources too thin.

Runs just fine.

The VM has great support for Windows 98 but it's a VM so I know it's not guaranteed to work.

My computer has an i3 quad and 4 GB of RAM so it certainly has enough horse power to run the VM and the game.

I've not tried Fury 3, but many, many older DOS and Windows 95 era games work very well in DOSBox, a free DOS emulator that's largely designed specifically to run games of ancient origin.
