My HD crashed...i think help asap please

Hi. I'm sorry if I'm posting at the wrong forum or what. I'm sorry.

Anyway, last Friday, I came home and started my laptop. Alas, I found this message: NTLDR is missing

I have no floppy drive, there is no flash drive inserted, no cd. I think my HD crashed.

I have a Compaq Presario V3000
My OS is Windows XP Home Edition

I made Recovery Disks before but I can't seem to find them. Been looking since Fri.

Help me please... My knowledge in troubleshooting starts and ends in asking help from internet forums. Help! :thumbsup:

The ntldr is missing message...occurs frequently enough.

My experience is to just do a repair install of XP but you can see proposed solutions by others below.

If you're able to boot to Windows after that repair installation, I would suggest downloading HDD Health and seeing what the health of your harddrive is. Very nice, free tool that has come in handy for me in the past.

Most hdd manufacturers have their own diagnostic programs that you can download and run. You can also download SIW which will show you the manufacturer of your hdd. This will be located in Storage Devices in SIW.
