BleepingComputer.com: win95 Access violation problem

I have installed Windows 95 on an older PC. Most or all programs that I place or install on the system indicate an access violation.

One exception is MS Excel version 5. It works fine.

Example error message:

Access violation at address 005FD73A in module "remote control.exe". Read of address FFFFFFFF.

As I said, this happens will any or almost any program I install or place on the machine, so I don't think it is specific to, "remote control.exe". However I will upload it anyway.

Additionally, all of these programs work fine on another PC running Windows Vista.

Any insight will be appreciated. Thank you.

Can you give us some examples of the programs that you are trying to install?
I'm wondering if they will work with 95. I know that Excel 5 does

Also, does the access violation occur during installation or after the program is installed and when attempting to run it?

Yes.

"Treepad Business Edition" http://www.treepad.com/download/#tpbiz

will not install and or run. "For Windows 7, XP, Vista, 200x, NT, 9x, ME and Linux/Wine."

And before anyone asks, yes I'm trying to install the windows version.

"Winrar" (for windows exclusively if I recall) also.

If I can install these, (if I recall correctly they installed without difficulty), they would not run, and gave error messages similar to the above.

Another error message about remote control .exe (a very simple ebook I created which works fine on my other Win. Vista system. And yes, Treepad/Winrar show similar messages upon closing):

remote control.exe has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

REMOTE CONTROL caused an exception eedfadeH in module <unknown> at 0000:00000000 ...

(remote control.exe is about 1.5 megs ... too large for upload parameters.)

update:

I am onto some new data. The problems, some of them, MAY have to do with trying to install 32bit programs onto a 16bit system.

Advise ignore this. I will repost when/if I get more data.

Just out of curiosity which version of Windows 95 are you running? Do you have any service packs installed?

I knew Microsoft had updated win 95 somewhere along the line just before windows 98 first edition was released, I jumped on Windows 98 first edition as soon as it came out for the USB support.

I am curious about what version of 95 is installed also.
