I understand your situation.
It is difficult to diagnose a hardware problem through the Internet.
When the USB feature of a motherboard stops working, I usually check the BIOS to see if the USB is disabled or not.
I also check to make sure there are no connection issues on the motherboard, such as a loose or corrroded connecter.
The fact that your intergrated Audio card is refusing to accept any drivers is strange, but this could be because the card is either damaged or the wrong drivers are being installed, even though it is assumed they are the right ones.

ETA: I did notice when I took the laptop apart last night that one USB port is directly attached to the motherboard and then there are two on the other side that are removable. What I'm afraid of is the problem lying within the motherboard itself.
before you thinking to change your laptop motherboard...lets do some test with using usb flashdrive/cdrom
if you have external usb DVD / CD drive or floppy drive...please try to boot your laptop using it and see if your laptop boot or not...using floppy disc that contain DOS with good enough or installer windows CD or linu livecd or UBCD is good...
if you know how to create usb bootable drive using usb flashdrive you could create usb bootable drive and boot from usb and see does your laptop boot from usb or not...
if its boot from usb that it means that usb is OK and your windows that have problem...
dont forget to change your priority boot to USB device (DVD/CD/Floppy/Flash drive)
and dont forget try to boot from all USB port...

Hi all
I just want to add the same issue I have got my Satellite L505D-LS5006 last year warrenty is over.
I formatted the hard drive clean wipe and installed legit windows 7 home premium edition and i have the same issue.
No Audio, No camera, No USB in the device Manager. I installed all the software needed from their website and no go. I searched on google for answer still no go untill i landed on this website.
I even went to toshiba forum and looked in search and still no go. They tried to sell me the Hardware back up what ever it is they are trying to make more money . I even went to microsoft website and tried that fix it solution downloaded and still no go.
I'm stuck with no answer at this moment untill some smart person have solution

I never updated this thread after my last post. The laptop was thankfully still under warranty and we had to send it back to Toshiba where they replaced goodness-knows-what (most likely the HD & other stuff). Everything worked fine after that of course.
Lesson learned by my husband: always keep your virus & spyware scan utilities updated and actually run them every now and then!

I'm glad you didn't waste to much time trying to fix it yourself and have the warranty run out. Just curious, did you check with any local Toshiba warranty centers to see if they'd fix it locally?
The last one I worked on I ordered the Motherboard around 5PM and UPS delivered the next morning and it was up and running that afternoon.
Toshiba is good that way overnighting warranty parts.
One other thought, Did the USB ports stop working after plugging in something. I have seen a USB printer kill a USB port for example.

There wasn't a local one, but Toshiba was quick to send a UPS box to pack it up and the turnaround was quick (within the week).
Not sure about the USB ports, though. The only things he ever used were flash drives. All of them were clean.
