Loss of Audio Audio loss on HP ZD7000 laptop

Greetings...

I am having a problem with audio on my ZD7000. The audio card is there and by all indications is working. Opening Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices says No Audio Device. Under the hardware tab, the Audio Card is shown (Conexant AC-Link Audio) and the Properties say it is working correctly. Under the Properties tab for the Conexant AC-Link Audio, it says "Status: Driver is enabled but has not been started".

I have reinstalled the drivers with no change. Running DirectX Diagnostic Tool, I can get sound when using "Test DirectMusic".

In poking around on other forums, others seemed to have to the same problem. They indicated it happened after a Microsoft update. I can't say for sure if that's true for me.
