Took two memory sticks out of Gateway (OS-Vista) and used them temporarily in an acer desktop (OS-XP). When I put the two 512s back into the Gateway, the fan is the only thing that comes on when I try to boot up. Appreciate any help.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Try reseating them. It doesnt sound like they are in all the way
Also you might try them one at a time.
In the beginning there was the command line.

Are you sure the memory sticks are supported by the Acer desktop?

Memory Specs? System specs/model no. ?
