Whats' possible for geneal disk cleanup trying to recover some space

Hi all,
fairly new to Linux, I'm running PClinuxOS 2010. I'm not confident yet that I understand the
uses of all the various folders and I was wondering if there are "temp" files I could find and delete
to recover some disk space. For example I see the folders, root/tmp and home/userid/tmp.
There's about 2GB in there. Is this stuff I can delete ?

What other opportunities are there for recovering space?

I use BleachBit. Works similar to Ccleaner. BleachBit works in both Linux and Windows.
You can also run it as ROOT for cleaning up system logs, etc.

On Ubuntu, which I use, it is installed by default.

Be cautious when setting it up. As you click on each item in the menu, a short description will appear in
the right pane.

Your temp files and process lock id's should be cleared upon reboot.

You shouldn't need to perform any soft of diskclean up.

How big is your drive, and how did you partition it?

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

For what it's worth, I'd kill it all off, reboot the machine, and then see where you're at. At 2 gigs it sounds to me like PClinuxOS hasn't been properly setup (fault of the authors, not you) to handle cleaning up tmp files. 2 gigs in tmp files on any system is absurd.

As cryptodan alluded to, tmp files are just that, temporary files, and are not meant to be retained over a reboot.
