No sound with DVD player

My problem is that I have replaced my CD-RW with a DVD-RW. I have made all the connections including the audio cable. The system recognized the DVD player, but when I play a DVD film on Windows Media Player or Nero Show Time, I get the images but there is no sound. And when I put an audio CD in the player, I get the sound. I am using Windows XP. I have checked all volume settings, it seems OK. Please help me.

Like Broni suggested, give VLC a try and be sure to try different media (DVDs).

The replies don't address the issue of the inability of WMP or Nero, to play the DVD.
Would this be a case of missing codecs?

Most likely.
K-Lite may be the solution: http://www.filehippo.com/download_klite_codec_pack/

But then, a lot of people dislike the Media Player, so it's useful to have a range of players to choose from.

They are BASIC after all. ;)
It really works with VLC. Thanks a lot.
VLC Media Player is a real gem.

If I run into problems, I resolve them through a little bit of persistence, accordingly I have
no 'workarounds' on my computer.
It seemed strange to me that whilst the VLC Player is a good alternative, the root cause
of the OP's enquiry was not tackled first. That's all.

Yes, could be.
Another possibility: Failing to select the right audio track, while playing DVDs.
(2.0, 5.1, different languages etc...)
the root cause
of the OP's enquiry was not tackled first.
Agreed, although our primary objective is to help the member accomplish what he/she is trying to do, provide a better alternative and then get to the root cause.
