I never use internet explorer, yet iexplore.exe is running in the background, and when i try to kill it it just gets respawned.

Any help would be appreciated...

Iexplore.exe is a basic part of XP, it's always reflected in Task Manager.

If a window is opened...then two instances are displayed in Task Manager...and so on, for each succeeding window.

What type of popup?

I get ad popups all the time from my installed AV program...but I've consented to those ads which are solicitations to purchase a paid version of their product.

The more specific you are...the better the odds that someone might have a resolution for your situation.
