BleepingComputer.com: My screen turns off and cpu gets stuck

My acer works fine until i enable my wireless
card, then the screen turns off. Any help would be
greatly appreciated!!! Additional info...... I can still tell the computer is trying to enable
the card by shining a light on the screen but it seems to be
stuck. Basically the screen backlight turns off and the computer
seems to get stuck in that mode of trying to enable the wireless
card. Please help!

Download Speccy from Piriform and check your make of wireless card - Then we can find the site to look for updates / problems with your card -
The other option is to look in Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager and check if any items have a question mark or exclaimation mark next to them -

Speccy doesn't list the adapter, I guess because I keep it disabled since it has a problem, but here is the best info on it I can find through my portable apps toolbox and device manager.

Broadcom 802.11 g Network Adapter (BCM43xx)
Driver: 3.100.46.0


When I try to update the driver it says it can't find one and then to insert a cd (I was able to update my other drivers or if there wasnt a update it would say I had the latest driver) but for this adapter it just says it can't find one. When I try to rollback the driver it says there's not one to rollback too. Everything else seems fine other than this problem. I can connect to the internet through a pci card. Haven't tried the ethernet as of yet, but thats probably fine too.

So I have downloaded this driver from softpedia and I extracted the files. When I run the hardware update wizard it still says it cant find a new driver. So when I click on search for best driver in these locations I put in the file path and it still says wizard can not find the necessary software. Man, I'm clueless at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, I figured that part out. I had to use the "have disk" option and then entered the file path and it worked. So I now have this new driver installed, when I reboot sometimes windows doesn't load and I have to turn off and restart in last good know configuration, when I do that the hardware manager says it cant load the new driver because their is a instance of the old driver still in memory, reboots don't help, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the network adapter, still no luck. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks!

What is your system model number. I could try looking it up

If you want to try this Try Driver sweeper http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/ Uninstall the 3.100.46.0 driver and install the 5.10.79.14

Acer Aspire 5000. Acer's website list two different type w/lan for this laptop, so I'm going to redownload the original and the other driver and see if I have any luck. Thanks for your help, hopefully I'll figure this out soon.
