Ok, I'm almost positive that this is some kind of virus infection, but I'm posting here because it seems to only be affecting the monitor.

Anywhere between 5 seconds and 30 minutes a 2" x 4" box pops up in the center of the screen that reads "brightness/contrast" and has 3 options: exit, brightness and contrast. They will usually be highlighted in rapid succession. The mouse arrow just goes behind it. It stays on screen for varying amounts of time.

I've tried unplugging the monitor, ran Avira and Superantispyware, rebooting, and nothing is working. It doesn't seem to affect any programs but is EXTREMELY annoying.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I've never dealt with anything like this before.

It started yesterday shortly after I visited a left-wing extremist site(no, I'm not one of them).

Is it the same box that shows if you operate the control buttons on the monitor? I suspect it is. If so, the usual cause is electrical leakage on the circuit board carrying the control switches. If the board is below the screen, it can be from some liquid seeping down from cleaning the screen, although it can also be from other causes.

I pressed F5, and I'm feeling refreshed...
