System detail:

Hewlett Packard m9600t

Windows Vista 64-bit Home
4 GB RAM
768 MB NvIdia Geforce 9600 GS

Problem detail:

A few nights ago, I got this BSOD while searching the internet. It has not reappeared. The details in the error popup at startup read:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.768.3
Locale ID: 1033

Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: 3b

BCP2: FFFFF96000136697
BCP3: FFFFFA600BC32DA0
BCP4: 0000000000000000
OS Version: 6_0_6001
Service Pack: 1_0
Product: 768_1

The BlueScreenView file is attached to the post.

I have been having a problem lately where Yahoo Messenger, Internet Explorer, and SVCHost balloon in memory usage and become laggy (but usually not unfunctional) such that, for instance, Yahoo Messenger messages entered with the enter button take about 5 seconds to appear. I think this might be associated with this problem, as my Yahoo was acting mondo slow and the only reason I wasn't attending to that is that I was primarily searching the internet and trying to get a list of things done for my work.

What is this indicative of? I did an internet search and I found some people speaking of video drivers and others speaking of corrupted .exe files. I thought I'd check with you guys first.

None of my anti-malware software is showing any sort of virus activity, also.

Thanks in advance. You guys are lifesavers.

Well, one BSOD is rather meaningless.
It could just have happened. It may be part of your issue, but it's impossible to judge anything from BSOD.

I'm interested in this:

SVCHost balloon in memory usage

What is the exact message?

Did you try another browser to see, if it works fine?

I don't get an error message with SVChost. I simply notice it is ballooning in memory usage in my task manager.

Attached is a screenshot. Often, Yahoo messenger and IE balloon in memory usage. Next time they do, I'll add a screenshot of that, too.

I have not tried another browser.

Thanks for answering.

I see. I wouldn't worry about it. Your CPU usage is at 1% - perfect.

Try to install different browser, like Firefox and see, if same thing happens.

I'll DL Firefox and see if I can make Yahoo slow down while I am fiddling around with it.

Here's the IE memory ballooning in the attachment.

Thanks again!

Well, it looks like IE was the culprit.

I just opened a bunch of Firefox windows and have them set to videos and everything and it still had moderate memory usage and Yahoo wasn't screwing up.

Then as soon as I added IE, I saw some lagtime in my Yahoo messenger. I can only assume it would continue this wya.

Thanks! I'll make a new thread on this to see if I can't fix it. I'd like to have IE as usable.

Here's the last task manager thing.

Close IE.
Go Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools, and click on Internet Explorer (no add-ons). Same problem?

Sorry about making that other thread, Broni. I thought the standard "one problem, one thread" rule would mean that making a new thread would be better.

I have no option for Internet Explorer to run with no add-ons there or elsewhere (I checked just now and did a file search to boot).

IE 7. I'm not fond of IE 8.

In IE, go Tools>Internet options>Advanced tab and click "Reset" button.
Restart IE. Check for issues.

Broni,

I'd like to apologize for just dropping off the face of the world. For the last month, I've been having a slew of business matters that have taken me away from the computer for most of that time.

However, this problem still is persisting after that IE resetting.

Example: Yesterday I was checking baseball records in three different windows (to compare hits v. at bats v. homers) and my Yahoo was all but freezing from Internet Explorer being so used.

It seems the resetting didn't work. I've even tried again, to make sure it wasn't something I did after getting a lot of my settings back to normal, but that isn't the case.

What do you suggest I do? Thanks.

You may want to start a new topic in "Am I Infected?" forum to see, if your computer is totally clean.

Sounds good. I'll pop on over there and perform those tests.

I just did a Malwarebytes ANti-Malware check yesterday and had nothing. But it can't hurt to go through the whole matter.
