Windows could not connect to the "---" network

I've been trying to configure the wireless for a Lenovo Thinkpad X201 all day now, but it just won't connect. I used the Diagnostic Tools for ThinkVantage Access Connections and it claims that the DHCP server is not responding. "The DHCP server on this network failed to respond to the network your system made for automatic IP address configuration." The connection type is "Access Point" (whatever that means :thumbsup:

) and I set the security encryption to be configured by Windows.

first disable all security on the laptop. access router software and make sure wireless is enabled there and disable security there. if you can now see the unsecure wireless connection, test by connecting and accessing the internet. if that works add security to the router. i do not know how windows encryption works. try adding it last and see what happens.

I tried that but it's still having issues. Thanks for your help though! I think my laptop is having issues with IP configuration, because now it hangs on "Waiting for IP configuration..." then just stops trying and disconnects.

Please specify the network diagram.

Are you connecting to A public access point or to your own access point.

Furthermore, please check the settings on your AP if there are security settings employed. e.i. MAC address filtering, DHCP disabled, etc.

In ipconfig, my media state is disconnected. I'm using Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 AGN (802.11n). I'm connecting to a public access point in a company. Some configurations are:
Wireless mode - auto
Security encryption - configured by Windows
Use this profile to connect during log on? - no
DHCP server: 192.168.33.4
IP Address - 0.0.0.0
Subnet mask - 0.0.0.0

The properties of my preferred network is WPA2, AES. The authentication is a Protected EAP and I unchecked Validate server certificate in properties. I also should note that Windows Network Connection stops at Validating identity.

are you leaving the ethernet cable attached when trying to connect wirelessly ? if so try it without.

For a lot of notebooks if you leave the NIC connected, WLAN does not work.

Since your in an office environment, I'm thinking your running WinXP SP2 or SP3.

What utility are you working on? WZC or Intel?

Are you hard coding the wireless profile? What happens of it was automatic?

Yes, I'm running WinXP SP3. Sorry for not mentioning that earlier!

I'm trying to work on WZC, since I deleted Access Connections in case it was interfering with the Windows Network Connection properties.

I made almost every configuration automatic as I don't know any passwords/WEP keys.

Great! Now my LAN connection won't even work. When I plugged it back in, it said it was connected but the internet won't work anymore. On top of that I tried to renew the IP address in ipconfig and it said "Windows IP configuration: No operation can be performed on Wireless Network Connection while it has its media disconnected."
