not working for anything, even task manager.
I'm suspecting a virus so running a scan now with Avira.
Btw its my laptop, this is my desktop ;)

EDIT: also, apparently, regular pop-up dialog boxes, strangely enough, are missing the cancel/yes/no/ok/etc buttons
EDIT2: and i forgot to mention i cant move windows, minimize or maximize

Can you connect to the Microsoft website?

Windows Update?

Your AV website?

Any websites?

Try running chkdsk /r command. Start/Run...type chkdsk /r and hit Enter. Type Y in new screen and hit Enter. Reboot.

Command will run before booting system into Vista.

Can you be more precise...when quoting error messages?

There are literally hundreds of them possible...and they don't have a generic answer for all of them.

The higher the quality of data you present...the likelier that someone will suggest something that helps, IMO.

Direct quote:
Checking volume (C:):
The type of file system on this volume is NTFS
Cannot open volume for direct access
windows have finished checking the disk
......
(yeah it has this dots)
then it reboots

ok there is definitely something fishy going around here.
So I wanted to do a system restore to yesterday (before the problem started), figured it would be easier than waiting for an answer.
then when i clicked next, it prompted me that C:\ might have an error and hence they could not perform a system restore, it wanted me to start chkdsk (which obviously did not want to start either).
(note the system restore did not take place)
So I wanted to try booting into safe mode and re-scan the computer, turns out safe mode is ALSO screwing me (it gave me the mouse and a black screen for a few seconds and the computer rebooted)
What do now?

What SP is installed on the system?

Typically, a black screen with the mouse pointer in the upper left corner...indicates a problem with the MBR.

System manufacturer and model?

You can try running chkntfs /d, then rebooting and trying the chkdsk /r command anew.

Do you have any utilities like Perfect Disk or Diskkeeper...scheduled to run at boot?

Diskeeper, but not scheduled to run at boot.

I tried running chkntfs but the command prompt disappeared in a flash (i assumed it worked and rebooted)
after reboot nothing happened, i ran chkntfs again, rebooted again, nothing happened. (i assumed it worked also)
then i ran chkdsk, nothing happened.
curiouser and curiouser?

EDIT: oh and solitaire does not work lol

Are you running any registry cleaners?

Seems to me that you have system files missing or damaged...or you could possibly have hard drive problems.
