First, go through all the classes of IP addresses and the subnets for each class. It is very important that they understand the concept of subnets in the addressing scheme. Then have them start by creating a simple network on paper with setting up IP,s with the correct subnet and gateways, you need to give them direction on what you expect the network to look like. Then implement the newtork on the lab that you have.
