Okay computer gurus. I am pretty smart with computers without having any courses or anything. But I do not understand one bit of this Home Networking. Here is my setup:

In my living room downstairs, I have a Cable Modem. Connected to a Linksys Wireless G Router. Upstairs is my "Office". I have a Desktop Computer with Windows XP with a Wireless Adaptor to allow internet access. I want this to be my main computer. I have my main printer (Dell All in One) upstairs connected to this desktop via USB. This computer willl always be on.

I have 2 other laptops. I would like to be downstairs on my laptop and print to the printer upstairs that is connected to the desktop. I know this can be done, but I cannot get it to work. Nothing is actually "wired" to the internet. I have tried creating a network using XP network wizard. I made a common workgroup for the computers, but cannot get it to work. The computer I created the network on can see the laptop on the "view my network group" but I cannot open or view the other computer. Also, when I click on this on the laptop, it says I cannot view the network group and to contact my administrator for access and privelages.

Basically, I want to start from scratch and go from there.

Thanks so much in advance!

1. Go to 'start/control panel' and choose 'printers and other hardware' then 'view installed printers or fax printers.
2. Right click on the printer you wish to share and select 'sharing…'
3. Choose the 'share this printer' option and give the printer a share name. Note that this name will be used to locate and identify the printer over the network, so it should have no more than 8 letters and no spaces or characters.

If it does not work go to practicallynetworked.com and search for print and file sharing.

You might want to also visit linksys knowledgebase and search for print and filesharing as well.
