BleepingComputer.com: Running Slow

Hi there, my computer is freezing and running slow. The programes i have running at start up is:
Explorer
msnmsgr
swdoctor
mpftray
aim
mcvsftsn
mpfagent
quickdcf
aoltray
vsnpstd
mcvsescn
qttask
aolsp scheduler
ptsnoop
mcagent
msnappau
systray
mcvsrte
rnaapp
aoltpspd

I dont know is i need all the programs running at start up, i use aol 9, hope this helps with any information.

If the system is running very slow, you might also want to run updated scans for spyware, run a disk cleanup, plenty of junk can also cause sluggishness, what about the HDD, have you defragmented it in a while? You could do these for a performance improvemnt, regularly. Check out the following links as well.

You should check your Startups against the
Bleeping Computer's Startup Programs Database
Here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/

When you have decided which ones you can disable. Do this:

Go to
> Start
> Run
Type in > misconfig
Click > ok
Click on the > Startup tab
> Un check the ones you do not need
> When finished
> Click > Apply
Then > OK
Your way out.

If you have any questions concerning what you would like to keep and or remove from Startups.
Post here and someone will help.

What I would do to save valuable time is to disable all of the startup items for diagnostic. After you have them disabled, do some testing with your computer. Basically, try to recreate the symptom. If the problem is gone, then you know for sure that it was one of the startup items listed in MSCONFIG. Then you can go in and enouble a group of items at a time to narrow in on what is actually causing the problem.

Also, MSCONFIG does not list all the items that get loaded. Typically Malware/Spyware loads itself directly in the registry. If you are comfortable with working within the registry, startup items are located here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > MICROSOFT > WINDOWS > CURRENT VERSION > RUN
