Hello Everyone,

After 2 nasty rootkits and countless low level Adware infections to several computers in my home, I am wanting to consider alternatives to Windows.

I have loaded PCLOS KDE on a LiveCD and Lucid Puppy on a LiveUSB and am testing both.

My question is, how secure is Linux and how impervious is it to infections? Does it require protection like Windows?

I would appreciate any advice you have.

Thank you,

PadRat

Thank you both. That is great information. It seems like from everything I have read, that Linux is very secure.

But is that true if, for example, you open an email that has a virus or does it only protect youfrom people trying to infiltrate your computer through an open port?

Just curious. Thank you

No that includes all types of viruses and malware most attachment viruses and such are meant for windows and not ubuntu and they will not execute in a linux environment.
