Hi everybody,

My first post here, it's good to meet you all. I'm really interested in PC's and would like to make a living as a software programmer, I know I'll have to become familliar with various programming languages as I have no experience at this point in time what so ever. I'm planning on doing an access course to get into University so that I can study either software engineering or computer science, but first I want to develop a firm grounding in the subject but am a little confused on where to start.
Is there anyone on here with experience in programming who can point me in the right direction?
Would I be correct in saying that a good start point would be reading books to introduce me to the 'C' programming language?
If any programmers would be so kind as to offer any help or advice for me then I'd very much appreciate it!
Bare in mind please that i'm completely new to programming.

There is a very good discussion already about learning to programme; here is the link to the thread:

Programming involves a very disciplined use of specialised skill sets and a great attention to detail.

Regards,
John
