BleepingComputer.com: Nvidia driver help

I wanted to right click my computer and go to the device manager and found a yellow warning system next to my Nvidia geforce 8600m gt. Well i have "supposedly" updated my driver as said by the automatic detection. Well, apparently when i go to control panel and click on "Hardware and Sound", and click the Nvidia control panel, i get an error stating "Nvidia display settings are not available: you are not currently using a display attached to an Nvidia gpu". I don't know what this means and i would like to fix it so i can play games and so on. Thanks.

From looking in nVidia forums...that's the kiss of death for that GPU.

Well...tell us what your system manufacturer and model are...and someone will present some ideas.

Knowing the current video chip/card doesn't do much good when considering possible replacements.

Might as well ask now...what games do you intend to play?

Well i have a Alienware M15x laptop with the 8600m gt graphics card. I mainly play around with emulators and a few pc games, mostly older pc games and not newer ones that just recently came out.

I don't game...but I would say your options are very limited by virtue of the fact that it's a laptop you have.

Better wait for some opinions from the persons who actually work on such.

ok i did some more research and then i actually tried that live help option on the Nvidia website. I talked with some guy and told me to uninstall the driver, go into safe mode and he gave me a link to a driver he recommends me to use. So i go into safe mode and install that drive and restarted and now it is working. I guess this thread has been solved but thanks for trying to help.
