Question:

How come when I log onto the site and then switch to another page, I am no longer logged on but considered a guest?


Answer:

BleepingComputer.com utilizes cookies to remember whether or not you are logged into BleepingComputer.com. If you do not allow cookies from this site to be placed on your computer, then when you log on and then visit another page, you will be logged out again and considered a guest.

In order to avoid this, you must accept cookies from bleepingcomputer.com. If you are concerned about privacy, you should not worry. The site only uses cookies for various aspects of your logged in state and other data that must be preserved between various portions of the site.


To enable cookies for bleepingcomputer.com in Internet Explorer do the following:
  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. Click on the Tools menu and select Internet Options
  3. Click on the Privacy tab
  4. Click on the Sites button
  5. In the Address of Web Site: field enter bleepingcomputer.com
  6. Press the Allow button.
  7. Press the OK button
  8. Press the OK button again
Now Internet Explorer will allow cookies from BleepingComputer.com


To enable cookies for bleepingcomputer.com in Mozilla Firefox do the following:
  1. Open Firefox
  2. Click on the Tools menu and select Options.
  3. Click on the Privacy category
  4. Click on the + sign next to Cookies.
  5. Click on the Exceptions button
  6. In the Address of Web Site: field enter bleepingcomputer.com
  7. Click on the Allow button.
  8. Press the OK button.
  9. Press the OK button again.
Now Firefox will accept cookies from BleepingComputer.com.

You will now need to log back into the site.
