Had laptop 2 years, running faultless but yesterday when i moved the laptop from the edge of the sofa to my knee the screen went blank and laptop froze so switched it off and worked fine.

same thing just happened, moved the laptop, hit my knee (gently) and screen went blank, switched off, rebooted and working fine again.

could this be due to over heating or is there any other possible reason other then a loose connection somewhere?

If it only happens when you move the laptop then I'd say it's most likely a loose connection. Do you keep the laptop at home or take it out at all?

*EDIT*

Just thought of this: are you running on just the battery or is it plugged in? You could be hitting the battery pack with your knee.

It is running from mains, never taken out and only happens when moved, will keep monitoring it and see what happens
