BleepingComputer.com: AMD's 6 Core Processor

I am on the verge of selling my old computer and building me a new one before I head to college. I have always been a big fan of AMD and their Processors and I needed to know if anyone here has used their new 6-Core yet and how is it?

I haven't used it but wow...

6 core huh.. I remembered when Quad-core was the big thing... Cool I can't wait to look into these 6 core chips

I havent used one, but my best friend bought one, got the 3.2 ghz black edition, and loves it to death. It performs phenomonally (no pun intended, or maybe there was?) for him, even at stock speeds. Of course, he is never satisified with stock, and with the help of a phase change cooler thats about as big as the computer is, he has managed to overclock it to 5.8 ghz stable. Pretty impressive if you ask me, Im not much into overclocking, and I wouldnt try that kind of overclock without some massive cooling (which he has) but the fact he can do it makes it a pretty amazing chip if you ask me. Heck, if I was looking at buying a new system, I would be buying it. Either that or wait until the 8 cores come out :D

Yeah thanks a lot. I've heard a lot of good things about them besides the fact that they run very hot (but what do ya expect). I'm also glad you mentioned that he has the Black Edition because I plan on getting the 3.2ghz over the 2.8ghz and just coughing up the extra hundred dollars. Once again, thank you.

well, I dont know how hot they run, his runs at -250 F with his phase change cooler, I dont know if he ever even bothered to hook it up to a air cooled heatsink. But even then, I suspect in a good, well ventilated case, it should run cool enough-even with the stock air cooling, as long as you don't intend on doing any major overclocks.
