Hello everyone! I'm new to this site and am hoping I will learn a lot from your experience. My computer OS Win XP SP3. For some time now when I boot up it takes forever for applications to load in order to open anything. If I attempt to open anything it freezes so I wait until she settles down. I've found on boot up I receive 2 errors in the event log: Event ID: 4 and 5. AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to read from an illegal IO port address (0x4d1), which lies in the 0x4d0 - 0x4d1 protected address range. This could lead to system instability. Everything I've read points to updating BIOS and that's why I'm here. Any help would be appreciated!

I assume that you read the following, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...p;Product=winxp.
Before I ever consider a BIOS update (haven't done one since Windows 98), I would replace the CMOS battery (less than $5 item) on the system. The reason I would do this is that the CMOS battery is a known element which, when failing, can make the BIOS/system behave strangely.
I'm curious as to what manufacturer and model apply to this system.
<<For some time now...>>
How long is that? Has this system ever run smoothly? Why have you ignored this until now?
