I have to say, that the Dutch totally spoiled the game.
I've always known them as playing open, "total football" game.
Not this time though...
I understand, that the only way to hold off Spaniards was to stay very, very close to their players, but the number of fouls committed by the Dutch was simply ridiculous.
Spain earned the win and it fully deserved it.

Overall, I think, it was the worst World Cup final, I've ever seen since the first one I remember, which would be 1966, when I was 12 years old.

 I hate it that I must to say this, but I am agree with you.

But all I am agree with you, we must also fair in this, that the Referee Howard Webb were on the hand from the Spain team.
That goal what Spain did make, was from my opinion off side, but however, it is just what you said, Spain was the better team and not alone in the final.
They deserve it.
I don't know or here on the forum are also Spain people, so for the secure say I: Congratulations Spain and thank you that you screwed up our dream, a dream what we Dutch people have for many years.

A lot of Dutch people here had the feeling the referee preferred the Spain team. A lot of disappointed people here. :flowers:
And yes, the goal should have been offside...
But in my honest opinion, the Spain team was indeed slightly better than the Dutch. They deserved it, but I don't like how the match was played.

I must disagree, regarding referee. I think, he barely made any mistake and Iniesta was definitely onside.
You can clearly see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXnN4nQKEd8

Previous pass doesn't matter, since Iniesta didn't touch the ball. He may be in offside position, as long as he wants, as long as he doesn't play the ball.
This is the moment of the pass to him:

Clearly onside.

OK, maybe you are right. But the Spanish didn't deserve the attack. The Netherlands should have gotten a corner.
But all in all, I agree with you that the Spanish were better. :flowers:

What Honestly will we do next?

World Cup is over, but not the Spirit that was generated on Bleeping Computer? How can we all carry that on?

Suggestions?

Or should just go back to ignoring other Countries beside our own and our close Allies?

Up to the Members to decide.

Ray.

Can I make a Positive Suggestion?

Start a Thread called "Football" sub titled, "Share here"

People could share whatever Code of Football is played right around the World and provide Vidieos and Facts about it?

I would love to see this Magical thing continue.

Offside goal, Referee on the Spanish hand, a corner what we didn't got, the Red card for a Dutch player is all not relevant.
When Arjan Robben use the 2 changes what he got, then had Holland win the match with 2-0.
The Spanish team were the best, fair is fair, but it is also fair for telling, that the Dutch team got changes too.
We had to Spain more changes then Germany got to Spain.
That is also fair for saying.
Spain had needed an extra time for defeat the Netherlands and Germany were out in the regular time.
So Spain were the best, but they had a whole bone at the Netherlands.
Personally think I, that the Spanish team could better handle with the impress, then the Dutch team.
Over 4 years is the W.C. in Brazil, than have the Netherlands new changes for the World title.
I belief that there is a period that they will be the best and win the final, I belief that will be happen before I am 75 years old.

Ok having watched the game last night I guess I must have been watching a different ref all game compared to htv8 and Radionorthsea, you both seem to think the ref was on the Spanish side (by the way he's a policeman in South Yorkshire where I live so he has to be neutral in that respect), the ref had a good game from my point of view he was certainly not favouring the Spanish in many decisions if at all I thought the Dutch were lucky not to be down to 9 or 10 men at half time certainly should have been after 90 mins, he was very lenient in not sending players off, Van Bommel had enough bad tackles to be sent off but he wasn't, Heitinga (think thats spelt right?) eventually got sent off though it could have been earlier than it was, Robben was lucky not to have been sent off in extra time when he ignored the offside decision and continued onto towards goal and the other player, De Jong I think who pretty much karate kicked Alonso in the chest that could have broke his ribs it was a recklessly high challenge that should have deserved nothing but a red card but the ref gave a yellow, so in all reality the Dutch should count themselves lucky they didn't lose in 90 mins they should have had 2 or 3 sent off by then.

As for the Spanish goal which as you say probably shouldn't have counted because the Dutch should have got a corner when that free kick deflected off the Spanish wall, all I can say to that is "what goes around comes around" based on what I summed up above on leniency, if you watch football enough you know that decisions where you are lucky generally come back and bite you in the butt and the same goes for bad luck to good luck as well.

Anyway its been mentioned by Radionorthsea if Robben had took 1 of his 2 clear cut chances to score then the Dutch would have won in the 90 minutes having rode on there luck which would have been ok they would have deserved it in some ways because over 90 mins I felt the Dutch had the better chances and were snubbing out the tactics the Spanish employed against the Germans although it had become a little ineffective after 70 mins once the Dutch started attacking more but had worked well for about an hour if not more, it might not have been the right way to do it from a neutrals point of view because it wasn't great to watch it certainly proved to be the right tactics though for a long time, but if I remember correctly the 2006 WC Final between Italy and France was a pretty drab match as well.

What I can saying is: I am for a part agree with you and that is that Arjan Robben must have a dark red card.
It was a nasty offense from him, but there were Spanish people they were playing hard too and one of them must have a red card too.
I am not agree with you with the fact that you told:

Quote

(by the way he's a policeman in South Yorkshire where I live so he has to be neutral in that respect)

He is a Policeman, but because he can still on the hand for the Spanish team.
If you could see, got the Dutch players more cards then the Spanish players and if I told, the Spanish players got little cards.
When the Referee were neutral, then he must giving the Spanish players just like the Dutch players, same cards and that didn't happen.
Also could you see that the ball would be touch through a Spanish player, so corner for the Netherlands, everyone could that see it was a corner, no said Howard Webb, no corner.
I think, the man must have need eye-glasses.
But not at least, I stay with my decision that also were the Referee on the Spanish hand, Spain won the game because they were the best.
