Woot, both goalies suck. Both goals so far were more goalie mistakes than great plays. 1-1

Don't tell me about BOTH goalies.
I've never seen a goal like the one English goalie gave up, since I played football in elementary school

Yeah but on that first goal (by England) the American goalie was out of position and got beat like a drum because of it. He was at midfield almost lol trying to get the ball. I don't know soccer, but I know a goalie should probably be IN or around the goal........... unless there's a break away and it's only him the the guy with the ball.

EDIT: What in the HELL is that annoying wasp buzzing sounds? Is that "cheering?" If so those folks need to reach down, grab their gnads and make a MAN sound lol.

BTW this has been fun so far. I'll bet the AC guy who was supposed to get here at 2:00 to fix my AC will get here right at the end of the game with the game on the line.........

OK, I've already mentioned about a million times that I don't know squat about soccer but so far here are my observations:

England is a better team. The US has had the ball for most of the game but they are ineffective. They have had shots on goal but with few exceptions they are weak shots. When the UK gets a shot on goal it is wicked. We still have a lot of game left but I think England will win. They did the "Monty" thing for the first half when they had the lead, (Monty being Montgomery who was more afraid of losing a battle than he was eager to win one in WWII), but now they can't just lay back and protect a lead. I see them scoring again and then doing the Monty thing to win because they just are more effective when they do have the ball. Besides, the Americans are playing like they expect to lose. Never a good thing. No matter how well they play, they are in their own minds inferior and as such in actuallity they are. I see that syndrome in sports all the time.

I forgot, this is a European sport. The game CAN end in a tie. Well the UK monty'ed up. They didn't lose.

How useless. A tie is as good as a loss in any real American's book. It's like kissing your sister. Now I remember why we don't give a crap about this sport..........

A draw (not a tie) is an okay score in the first group game. The USA are rated second out of four in the group so a draw suits both as long as they can go on and win the next two games.

The first goal by Gerrard was actually really well taken, Howard was in position - coming out to narrow the angle for Gerrard so he had less to shoot at - but Gerrard took it a beat early and wrong-footed him.

The wasp sounds, I believe, are annoying trumpets which the fans are buying.

Ice hockey, American football and baseball can all end in a tie too...?

This is the big tourney... As an American I want to see the USA advance.. We were once like kids in that league. I think the US Soccer team has become much better over the past 12 years. (excuse my soccer, as you others[regulars] grew up calling it foot ball.].I knew it is as soccer and of course the NFL as football) :flowers:

The only thing I don't like is that bee swarm sound, It's really annoying.. Sounds like a thosand weed whackers

Very true. When I came to US in 1986, I was missing real football a lot, and US football was just horrible.
I think, the World Cup held in US in 1994 made a huge difference.
Right now, US is listed as #14 in FIFA ranking (England is #8), but couple of years ago, Americans were even ranked in first ten.

As for goalies, Howard played an excellent game, making couple of brilliant saves. Green, the English goalie had another shaky moment, toward the end of the game, when after Altidore shot, he barely punched the ball off a post. So, I don't think, the first US goal was a pure English bad luck.
Beside, if you shot a ball toward the goal, things happen.

No. for the last two, maybe for the first. I don't know. Hockey is a European sport as well. The NHL can't even get a major network here to cover them. The Stanley Cup is going on or just finished. It was broadcast on the WHogivesadamn channel I think.

Football has sudden death and baseball has extra innings.

I want that two+ hours of my life back. The result was the same BEFORE the soccer game as it was afterwards.

I know you are going to call this a lie, but the biggest sporting event in the World according to Forbes magazine who ranks it on money generated is..............

The Superbowl of course. REAL football Broni in America where you currently live. Delta has flights to Poland I believe.

The Summer Olympics were second and FIFA was third.

The Daytona 500 was 4th for all you F1 fans. As a matter of fact, F1 didn't place anywhere on the top 10 list.

EDIT; LOL I'm stirring the pot again. Sorry. It's a bad habit. Although while the list I just provided is true my disparaging comments aout soccer aren't. I won't watch any match that the US isn't in, but I also won't watch a sport of ANY type where there isn't a team in it I don't want to win. If I don't care who wins, why watch the game?

It's not always about money. I don't care about THAT money, because they don't give me anything
We're talking about popularity here.
World Cup is watched by a few billion people.

Regarding ice hockey, during regular season, if the game is tied after 3 periods, each team is rewarded 1 pointthey play 5 minutes of sudden death OT. If nothing happens, the tie stays. If someone wins in OT, that team receives a second point.
There is no tie in playoffs.

There are also tie games in the NFL regular season. Just not in the playoffs.

Hey Boopme, did you miss this part?

Is jocularity not allowed ANYWHERE here? Does everyone have a corn cob up their rear ALL the time? No light hearted fun? 90% of ANY sport is the light hearted trash talk. I watched the WHOLE match, did you? Can't say I understood it all but I watched it all. If I wasn't amused by it I wouldn't have watched it. Lighten up.

EDIT: I teased Broni about hockey earlier this year too. He nailed me back. He nailed me about American football too. WHat's the big deal? It's all in fun.
