random vertical lines on my screen

I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop about 5 yrs old running XP media center edition 2004. In the last few months it has developed vertical lines on the screen. If needed and allowed, I can take a screen shot and attach to he next post. Could it be the graphic card?

if you can output to another monitor through your VGA out, that will tell you if it is the graphics card or a dying LCD screen
