BleepingComputer.com: Restricting LAN access through a router

I have a network with five clients and one computer set up as a server which has many shared files for different programs. This network is connected to the internet through the router so that all of the computers have access. I am wanting to add another computer to the internet through the network, but I do not want this other computer to have acess to the LAN. I would like for it to not be able to see shared files from the server, or any of the other computers. It needs to run independently of the LAN, but run through the same router. What would be the easiest way to do this?

Not sure if this is what you are looking for. There are some routers that have 2 wireless channels, one for the system and one for guests that wish to get out to the internet but are not wanted on the local network.

One of our clients got one. I believe it was a D-Link N Router but I am sure others do it as well.

There are other options, such as creating a Virtual LAN, but I believe the router method above would be the least work.

None of these computers have wireless capability. Everything is wired into the router. I had looked into the VLAN idea but it seemed like alot of work for a seemlingly simple problem.

As long as one system is not part of the network, the shared access works via the router.

If you connect a system to the router without enabling/joining the home network, I believe that only ICS is implemented. That's why users must reflect the same workgroup AND select files/folders/drives which are to be shared among the members of the network/workgroup.
