For some reason, even though it was working fine last week, whenever I plug in my external hard drive (WD, 1TB) it freezes MyComputer in both Vista and XP, and refuses to load anything until I plug it out. What happened??? I haven't downloaded anything. I really need to get my files! My external hardrive is partioned into 4 parts, and it does not have the default WD software on it.

This drive connects to your computer via the USB port I take it.

Have you tried using another USB port other than the one you usually use?
Please take notice. Oreo and I will not be available until June of 2012.
Thank you for understanding my absence, it is job and college related, so all is good. If I do not answer your PMs this is the reason why. See you all soon!

Bruce.

I would check Event Viewer...for errors appearing in the same timeframe as your connection attempts.
