Just got cable so what do I need to

I just got a cable and works fine with my computer. However my brother gets limited connection when the ether cable is hooked directly to his computer. Also his PS3 doesn't connect ether. I don't have a router. how do I fix it?

Get a router. A wireless one if you'd like. but if you have no need I think they still make non-wireless routers. lol
