Serial Routers, Whats the difference? Serial routers vs Regular routers

Can someone tell me the difference between a serial router (multi-tech RF102S) vs say a regular router (linksys, netgear, etc (something you would use at home))?

I have a serial router at my home and have no idea what it is.

The WAN connection is the main difference. ISDN uses that sort of connection.
