BleepingComputer.com: Cannot connect to router

I've been trying to reset our router and get it working but have been unsuccessful. Every time I reset the router and plug the Ethernet cord into one of the ports it connects to the network but I don't get an internet connection. I tried to connect to the routers IP address, factory reset is 192.168.1.1 but that never shows up when I run the command prompt. All I see is 0.0.0.0. I cannot renew ipconfig or release because of media disconnect.

The router is a linksys BEFSR41, firmware is v4.1. I have the 4.3 on my desktop but dont know how to upgrade. I'm running windows 7.

What is the make and model of the router?

Are you plugging your PC into one of the 4 ports on the back that are grouped together?

How do you know its connecting to anything?

Yes I am plugging the cord into one of the 4 ports on the back that are grouped together. I know the router works because we were just using it in the living room to run out consoles. We had to move it back into the bedroom for the computers because our wireless router died.

Have you reset the router when you moved it? Little button right beside the power plug, need a pen or straightened paperclip to press and hold it for a few seconds.

yes it has been reset several times

Check your firewall isn't blocking a connection to your routers ip address you may need to add the routers ip address into trusted networks or something similar depending on your firewall model.

For some reason your computer is not recieving a DHCP aquired address. I would try to set a static IP on your computer so you can get into the router to see what is going on.
