BleepingComputer.com: Combofix. Remove recovery console option

I was not sure where to post this.

Anyway when i turn the computer on i am given extra option of starting Windows XP media editon or Recovery console and i have 3 seconds to decide. I no longer have combofix installed and want to remove this boot option just to speed things up abit when loading the computer.

How do i do this?

That option is still present because the Windows Recovery Console is still on your system. It is not removed along with ComboFix. The reason for this is that having the Recovery Console on the system provides powerful recovery options in the event of system failure for any number of reasons. Without the Recovery Console, if Windows XP fails to boot for some reason your options for recovery are very limited. Furthermore, removing the Recovery console will not significantly improve your boot time (about 3 seconds faster)

That being said, the option can be removed by removing the Recovery Console. If you're determined to do this. . . let me know in a reply to this thread and I'll let you know how.

i think its better to leave the recovery console, its only a couple of seconds and it could prove to be useful later if you have trouble booting.
however, if you really want it removed here's how to do it


perform the following steps:

start > run > msconfig > boot tab > select recovery boot option > click delete > click ok
