Just posting this to make people aware that McAfee Security Center is no longer what it used to be:

To me it kind of looks like a Fake Security Product, so it could alarm people as such.

The icon near the clock is also different.

It is a red shield with a white M in the middle of it.

So the next time you fire up McAfee don't be alarmed.

Also on my machine the following processes are McAfee:

mcagent.exe - McAfee Security Center
mcsacore.exe - Site Advisor
mcshield.exe - McAfee Scanner
McSvhost.exe - McAfee Service Host
mfefire.exe - McAfee Firewall
mfevtps.exe - McAfee Process Validation

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

Nice CNET review outlining the new features available.

My McAfee subscription will end in a few weeks, and although I am probably not going to renew, I will say that McAfee has served me exceptionally well this past 3 years.

I just thought I would post this to let everyone see the new gui so they are not thinking that they are infected with a FakeAV. I also posted the new processes seen.

RedDawn

be sure to check your bank account, that they don't charge you again once you've uninstalled!!! as they've seemed to have had a habit of doing that to people

Hi 666philb,

Yeah, the automatic renewal can be kind of sneaky. These days it seems to be common policy with quite a few AV vendors.

Thanks for the heads up anyway, much appreciated.
