cant transfer files

Hi when I try to transfer files from an external HDD onto my vista home premimum laptop I keep getting a message saying "you do not have permission to use this file".

How do i go about this???

Make sure you not only have taken permission of the file to be copied (like in the tutorial Broni linked), but also have permission to copy it to its destination (for example: copying to the Windows directory is a no-no).
