Hi,
I was running vista home premium but, then I had problems with the pc so, I formatted the HDD and I installed vista home premimum but, I wasnt asked to type a produck key, why was this??

What type of disk did you use?
Vista DVD, or some recovery DVD?

If it's the OS disk supplied with a brandname computer, then it is likely to be pre-registered, like the XP with my Compaq laptop. I can just re-install from the CD and go, it doesn't ask for a product key.

Well, you'll probably still have to activate it.
Right-click Computer > Properties > Scroll to the bottom of the Window
If it looks like this, you're good to go:

But if it looks like this, you'll have to enter your product key (sometimes on the bottom/back of the computer or on the install disc packaging).

When I checked to see if I needed to activate windows, it wrote (27 days to activate windows) and I activated windows but, I did not have to enter a product key, why is this???

It may have already entered the product key (or it was built in). You simply had to activate it (over the internet).
