Hi Joe when the auto setup wizard appears after you have logged in to the router choose country and language where it ays auto detect connection type choose no i want to configure the gateway myself click next.

Where it asks does your internet connection require a login choose yes.

Encapsulation set it to PPPOA or PPOoverATM

Login( enter username given to you by isp)
Password(your password given to you by isp)

Service name is not required.

Idle timeout set to zero

Domain name server dns address
Choose get automatically from isp

Set NAT to enable

Click apply.

Go to ADSL settings on main menu

Set multiplexing method to VC based or VC mux.

Set VPI to 0

Set VCI to 38

Click apply.

Do a router reboot.

Also you do have the adsl splitter to keep your phone and internet connections separate as well?

There is no option for "no i want to configure the gateway myself", it just starts detecting automatically. It then says "PPPoA Detected - The Smart Wizard successfully detected the type of Internet connection you have".

When I enter my username and password, I get "Updating Your Settings - The router is now updating your settings" for a bit and then the error page.

I'm no longer getting the options I mentioned before in Internet Explorer and I'm not getting any of the other options you've mentioned. I've also tried in Google Chrome and got the same result.

I am using a splitter.

Hi Joe the netgear router you have is asky broadband router sky have put their own firmware on so manual configuration may not be allowed it is disabled.
Last thing to try is to go to this location again http://www.routerlogin.com/CA_HiddenPage.htm and disable configuration assistant and save then re-boot the router and see if basic settings is there if it is you amy be able to manually configure with settings from my last post but i don't think this will work so don''t hold your breath. If it doesn't re-enable the configuration assistant.

The only thing that you could do in this case is to download the official netgear firmware from the link below:

http://kb.netgear.com/app/products/model/a_id/2328

Download the .img file to your desktop.

Connect an ethernet cable to the ethernet port on pc and the other end to one of the four Lan ports on back of router(do not try and upload the firmware using wireless connection as it may flash incorrectly and leave you with an unaccessible router).

Open your browser and navigate to router login page and log in on the main menu choose maintanance in this menu there should be a heading router upgrade click to open, click browse and choose desktop and select .bin or.img you have just extracted once it appears in the box click upload and the update will begin when finished the router will re-boot, you may need to connect to it again. Do not interrupt the update process at all.

After update you should be able to login and choose to configure manully using the settings from my last post.

Hope it helps and works please let me know.

The upgrade failed and I still can't change any of those settings so I'm going to have to give up. Thank you very much for your help though, Darth sidious.

Sorry to hear that the firmware not worked that is the correct firmware for the dg834gt so should have worked unless their is a problem with the router itself or is not a dg834gt but the screenshots suggested it is. You could try resetting the router using a paperclip and then try and upload the image again, but hat is up to you. The image itself amy be corrupt you could google or search netgear knowledge base to see if any other users have had this problem with that version of the firmware image.

Sorry problem isn't resolved post again if you need any help.
