I recently downloaded IE7 on my DELL XP sp3.
One item now on the computer is phishing, which
evidently checks for bogus websites.
Is this phishing "program" something I need or can
I delete/diasble it somehow?
On the taskbar, a right click on the phishing icon
says I can change it's settings, but I don't know
how to do so.
I just don't want this running on my computer.
Thanks in advance for your help.

The more levels of security you have, the better, IMO.
"Online phishing (pronounced like the word fishing) is a way to trick computer users into revealing personal or financial information through a fraudulent e-mail message or website. A common online phishing scam starts with an e-mail message that looks like an official notice from a trusted source, such as a bank, credit card company, or reputable online merchant. In the e-mail message, recipients are directed to a fraudulent website where they are asked to provide personal information, such as an account number or password. This information is then usually used for identity theft. "
But if you're determined:

Personally...I've never seen a reason for it.
I feel that my system defenses (a firewall, a router, a reliable AV program, all XP security updates, 2 antispyware/malware program and...safe computing practices by me) don't require one more service running.
OTOH...I see the value for users without one or more of the above.

I dont use Internet Explorer. I use Firefox and it uses Google to trap phishing sites. I also use OpenDNS which also blocks phishing sites.

Ok....thanks for the suggestions. I'll ponder the options further.
