The pc is 5 years old and has Pentium D 920 with 2gb ram Geforce 6200 card running XP media center. I have lost 3 op drives in the last 2 yrs. 2 being the originals and 1 being a samsung that I replaced the original burner with. I have also lately been having problems with my wireless not staying connected although the signal seems fine. The laptop that is on the network doesn't seem to have this problem. I just noticed that the network problem had went away and then I went to look at something on a disc and found the drive not in My computer. I am starting to think that my Power supply is dying. Any thoughts on this guys?

Does the optical drive show up in device manager?

That's Windows generic pep-talk. Optical drives don't need any extra drivers.

One of these may help:
1. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
Restart computer.
or...
2. Download, and run Restore Missing CD Drive patch
Double click on cdgone.zip to unzip it.
Right click on cdgone.reg, click Merge.
Accept registry merge.
Restart computer.
or...
3. Go to Device Manager, click a "+" sign next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
You'll see two items:
- ATA Channel0 (or Primary Channel)
- ATA Channel1 (or Secondary Channel)
Right click on each of them, and click Uninstall. Confirm.
Restart Windows. They'll be automatically reinstalled.

I am going to try the first one and on down the line but the last one I do have a question. My hd is a sata and my op drive is a sata and all I have is an ultra ata and a primary ie channel. If I try and delete the ultra ata wont that kill my hd also? Thanks/.

The first one fixed it! Said the file was corrupt and fixed it. Woo Hoo. I went ahead and downloaded the whole fix it package just to take a look at it. But this still bothers me that I have had problems with the op drives. This is totally unrelated to a power suppy dying isn't it? Thanks again.

I'm glad to hear good news

What happens, sometimes some newly installed program messes up those settings. For instance, iTunes are known for causing problems.

Another happy camper!

Way to go Broni!
Please take notice. Oreo and I will not be available until June of 2012.
Thank you for understanding my absence, it is job and college related, so all is good. If I do not answer your PMs this is the reason why. See you all soon!

Bruce.
