Hello,

Forgive my ignorance if there is a proper "forum etiquette" that I don't follow, but this is my first time posting to a forum. My problem is this; I have a computer (AMD Quad Core 2.5Ghz with a 1.5GB video card, 750Gb Hard drive, and 4Gb of ram) A respectable setup if you ask me, and it's awesome when it works, but it will intermittently stop responding. I originally had windows XP 64 bit on it, with a bunch of games that I loaded in short order. I noticed the problem after a bit of game play, and it seemed to be getting worse, so I did multiple scans for viruses and Malware (found nothing major) and figured maybe something had hit the OS core files, so I had a copy of Windows 7 available and did an upgrade to windows 7 x64. It again seemed really good for a little while, but then still locks up intermittently. Now I didn't have this problem with an older motherboard, but I switched it out because the old one did not support my HD audio and the front port USB were bad due to an improperly manufactured jumper. I'm pretty sure it's something with the motherboard, and don't want to swap out because I'm able to use the on-board graphics in hybrid form with the video card which made the whole thing a screaming budget upgrade :flowers:. Only wish it worked.... It may just be a case of "you get what you pay for", but if anyone could provide me with some "how to" of tracing a mother board lockup issue and possible resolution would be great. Thanks, and sorry again if I'm not super forum savvy.

Hi there, Michelangelo. :flowers:

 to Bleeping Computer.

This might be of use to you: A Beginners Guide to Expert Forums on the Net :trumpet:

Since you seem to believe your problem is caused by the motherboard (I agree it's not the OS, so it must be the hardware), I'll have this topic moved to the appropriate sub-forum where you'll be able to get better help. :inlove:

Sit tight while your topic is moved.

Just make sure the RAM modules are not the problem, being that you mention this setup is so new, I would look into those first.

The processor is fairly new, but was thermal paste used between the processor and heat sink?
Please take notice. Oreo and I will not be available until June of 2012.
Thank you for understanding my absence, it is job and college related, so all is good. If I do not answer your PMs this is the reason why. See you all soon!

Bruce.

I would follow this step, if you have multiple bars of ram just try them one at a time. If you're still uncertain if this procedure worked or not you can always try free memory test software.
Here's the one I usually use http://www.micro2000.co.uk/products/micros...mory_Tester.htm

All of the instructions are right on the main page. Hopefully this helps!

if you want a good ram test then use memtest:

Quote

***** A. If you have more than one RAM module installed, try starting computer with one RAM stick at a time.

NOTE Keep in mind, the manual check listed above is always superior to the software check, listed below. DO NOT proceed with memtest, if you can go with option A

B. If you have only one RAM stick installed...
...run memtest...

1. Download - Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO (.zip)
2. Unzip downloaded memtest86+-....iso.zip file.
3. Inside, you'll find memtest86+-....iso file.
4. Download, and install ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/
5. Insert blank CD into your CD drive.
6. Open ImgBurn, and click on Write image file to disc
7. Click on Browse for a file... icon:

8. Locate memtest86+-....iso file, and click Open button.
9. Click on ImgBurn green arrow to start burning bootable memtest86 CD:

10. Once the CD is created, boot from it, and memtest will automatically start to run.

The running program will look something like this depending on the size and number of ram modules installed:

It's recommended to run 5-6 passes. Each pass contains very same 8 tests.

This will show the progress of the test. It can take a while. Be patient, or leave it running overnight.

The following image is the test results area:

The most important item here is the “errors” line. If you see ANY errors, even one, most likely, you have bad RAM.
